I love snow globes for two reasons:
a) I love anything involving confetti and/or sparkles.
b) You can shake em! shake em! shake em! (points for anyone who knows that reference...)
When I was younger I had an embarrassingly large collection of snow globes, which I kept displayed on my dresser before they were replaced with a magenta caboodle full of Wet & Wild make up. When we moved from the Midwest to Connecticut, my whole collection somehow disappeared. (ie: my mom either accidentally threw the box away before we left or they arrived shattered and destroyed and she didn't have the heart to tell me.)
Today on Apartment Therapy I came across these pieces by the talented husband and wife team Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz. I love the stark simplicity of the series, which is now part of a group show entitled Cool at the George Adams Gallery here in NYC.
I should probably start building my collection again because I am all aglow with the idea of arranging a bunch of dazzling orbs on tiered wire shelves inside an unused fireplace painted a dark blue or charcoal grey.
