This felt like the longest effing week of my life and I am so glad it's finally Friday! This is the first weekend in several months that I have a day that is completely free and I am so excited to get some housework done and tackle some fun projects that have been on my To Do list for far too long.
I'm having a few friends over for dinner so first on my list is baking a super simple dessert. I'm thinking peanut butter cup bars. Don't they look good?
Last year I bought a fun desk calendar from Anthropologie with all these crazy designs in bright colors and I loved flipping it over every month to see what new pattern awaited. Now that the year's over, I thought I would find a more permanent use for the calendar so I plan to experiment with different designs to make some easy DIY wall art.
What's a weekend without a good workout? I think I'll also try out one of the new zumba classes at my gym. Here is what I think it will be like:
This month I am all about the preppy elegance of navy blue. I love it in large doses like slathered all over the walls of a kitchen or in small accents like linens and pillows and artwork.I especially love it paired with bright pops of yellow, green and turquoise. Here are a few recent faves:
Colorful accents that don't overwhelm the space. Genius!
I am so jealous of Molly's redesigned bedroom, featured over on Design*Sponge today. The dark walls, painted accent furniture, vintage mirrors and paintings and simple design are all right up my alley and are providing some much-need motivation to get my act together and finish up my own bedroom! Well done, Molly!
Love how these mirrors are classy, not gaudy. And my kingdom for that horse!
Someone please buy me this lamp! I'll take the adorable nightstand too.
Now that the holiday season is officially over, I can start shopping for myself again! I've mostly been gravitating to wall art lately because I have two walls in my bedroom that are completely empty and it bothers me every single day. Here are a few random pieces I've had my eye on recently, only a few of which I can actually afford:
Even though I adore floral and other ultra-feminine patterns, I prefer to stay more gender neutral when it comes to wallpaper, especially if it's in a common area. But OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. This wallpaper is THE WALLPAPER. It's just the most perfect thing ever for a powder room or dressing room, right? If I had a huge walk-in closet I would totally use this paper and then just spend all my time trying on clothes and taking pictures of myself against the backdrop of this aviary awesomeness.
I'm just gonna say it: 2011 was the WORST. It was a very very trying year for myself and for most people I know. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger though, right? That's what my Nana always says.
Here's why 2012 will be so great: no matter what the year brings, it can't be worse than what 2011 brought! (Essentially, a lot of stress and misery and a good 10 lbs.)
I hate good taste. It’s the worst thing that can happen to a creative person. – Helmut Newton

Things I like: flowers, stripes, sequins, glitter, bunnies, those weird pom-poms on all my grandmother's curtains, expensive candles, inexpensive candies, shelter magazines, TV, wallpaper, costumes, old-school socialites, proper etiquette, grapefruit, stationery, champagne, art museums, subway tile, lots of pillows and anything metallic.
Also I like interior design. A LOT. Since I tend to bore most of my friends with my opinions on everything from wallpaper to wall art, I'm posting them all here! Questions? Comments? Presents?
