I don't know about you but despite the relatively sunny weather here in NYC, I am in a horrendous mood. All I really want to do is crawl back into bed or glue myself to the couch and read trashy novels until I pass out around, say, 8pm. I would like to skip today entirely because then I can at least begin obsessing over the predicted snowfall and start praying for a snow day on Wednesday.
Maybe the answer is to go home and make this Meyer Lemon Whiskey Sour?!?
Meyer Lemon Whiskey Sour
makes one cocktail
1 1/2 ounces whiskey (rye or bourbon)
1 ounce freshly squeezed Meyer lemon juice
1/4 to 1/2 ounce simple syrup*, according to taste
Maraschino cherry for optional garnish
(*If you don't have simple syrup on hand already, no worries - it's super easy. Just equal parts sugar and water heated in a saucepan on the stove. You can make some in about 5 minutes with this recipe here.)
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

Cool-Aid

Last week I hobbled home on horrible blister-ridden feet and of course I could not find a band-aid anywhere in the apartment. My old roommate keeps a handy Tupperware container underneath her bed that literally contains 6 different kinds of over-the-counter pain killers and I could not find a single band-aid anywhere in the house. As I patted my sore, swollen feet I resolved right then and there to go out and buy a first-aid kit as soon as possible.
Then I forgot.
Yesterday I made the blisters even worse by wearing yet another pair of insanely awesome but still very uncomfortable heels and I decided the best way to treat the now open wounds was with gin. Lots of it.
I saw this post on Shelterrific today and basically I think the fates are trying to tell me I should screw the pharmacy and support my local liquor store instead. I'm not even sure how or where this would fit in our apartment but I feel I must make it happen somehow because it is so damn cool. PLUS, the stylish cabinent would keep the barware far away from the cat, who might otherwise be tempted to knock them all over simply because she can.
Is it weird that I would be tempted to paint the traditional red cross neon pink or electric blue?

It's a Bird! It's a Plane!
It's a Mini Bar! It's a Side Table!
Browsing the Moma website this morning, I was excited to find this minimalist oak Mini Bar. Y'all know my taste is a little over the top at times and when it comes to Mini Bars, I am all about the glitz and the glamour, but this one is subtle and sophisticated and I am into it! It could double as a console table during the day and then a bar for cocktail hour in the evenings. And it would make me feel less obnoxious when my parents come to call. A very space efficient alternative to a traditional bar-cart! Two thumbs up!
